OWOP Day 7: Petite shorts and review/Petite shorts y repaso

Para la última versión de los Petite shorts no he querido hacer muchos cambios, así que lo único diferente es la cinturilla y que no lleva pinzas detrás. Por lo demás, son iguales, incluso los botones son los mismos pero en color plateado. Es lo que tiene vivir en un pueblo pequeño, no hay mucha variedad.

He aquí unas reflexiones sobre mi semana OWOP:

• Ha sido muy productiva, nunca había cosido tanto y tan seguido, y mucho menos había utilizado un patrón como base, simplemente empezaba desde el principio.
• Me he convertido casi en una experta en cremallera invisibles y en poner cinturillas.
• Mi costura ha mejorado, pero mi planchado no. Sigo siendo tan mala como siempre.
• Odiaba hacer ojales, sigo haciéndolo.
• No voy a coser shorts en un tiempo, así que, queridas hermanas, tendréis que esperar.

Antes de volver a la acción (todavía tengo pendiente lo de Moon Munkie) voy a relajarme viendo lo que ha hecho el resto de la gente, aunque ya he visto algunas cosas y me encaprichado de bastantes: quiero hacer un top con una manga como la de Maider de Masustak Eguzkitan, conseguir los acabados tan limpios de Carolyn de Handmade by Carolyn y poner en práctica su tutorial de tapeta francesa, quiero hacer una falda como la de Rachel de House of  Pinheiro y la camisa de rayas de Andrea de Four Square Walls. Y todavía me queda mucho por ver!

For the last version of the Petite shorts I haven’t wanted to make many changes, so the only thing different is thefabric, the waistband and that there are not darts on the back. Despite that, they’re the same, even the buttons are the same but in silver colour.  That’s what is like living in a small town, you don’t have a wide variety.

There you are some reflections on my OWOP week:

·         It`s been very productive, I’ve never sewn so much and so often before, and I have never used a pattern as a base, I just started from the beginning.

·         I’ve become almost an expert in  invisible zippers and installing waistbands.

·         My sewing has improved, but not my ironing. I’m the same bad as always.

·         I hated making buttonholes, I still do.

·         I’m not going to sew short for a while, so , my dear sisters, you will have to wait.

Before going back into the action ( I still have The Moon Munkie thing) I’m going to relax watching what the rest of the people have done, although I have  already seen some things and I have fell for some of them: I want to make a top with a sleeve like Maider’s from Matsutak Eguzkitan, get the clean finishes of Carolyn from Handmade by Carolyn and put into practice her French fly tutorial, I want to make a skirt like Rachel’s from House of Pinheiro, and the Stripey shirt of Andrea from Four Square Walls. And I have a lot to see yet!

OWOP Day 6: Pliegues y cuadros/Pleats and plaid

Me encantan los pliegues y los cuadros. Manteniendo siempre el corte en el delantero, en la parte lateral dibujé unas líneas, corte y abrí los cortes a una anchura de unos 6 cm. El resto es muy sencillo. En esta versión no he añadido cinturilla, pero tampoco le he puesto vistas, así que simplemente cosí el forro al pantalón y le dí la vuelta. Ya sé que no es un acabado muy limpio, pero era el más rápido. La cremallera esta vez la he puesto detrás. Me gusta mucho este modelo, y puedo imaginármelo como falda ó convirtiendo los pliegues en pequeños bolsillos con algún botón como detalle, tengo que probarlo.

I love pleats and plaid. Keeping always the front cut, on the side piece I drew some lines, cut them and opened them to a 6 cm width. The rest is very simple. In this version I haven't added a waistband, but I haven't put facings either, so I just sewed the lining to the short and turned it over. I know it's not a very clean finish, but it was the fastest. The zipper is on the back. I like a lot this model, and I can imagine it as a skirt, or transforming the pleats in little pockets with a button as a detail, I have to test it

OWOP Day 5: Azul marino, otra vez/Navy blue, again

Esta tela me encanta, aunque sea tela de sábana, así que para mi 5ª versión de Petite shorts, he vuelto a utilizarla. Esta vez dí 4 centimetros al ancho de muslo, y añadi una tabla de 6 cm en el corte. Como detalle he puesto unas presillas, siguiendo la técnica de este tutorial, aunque esta vez cambié el prensatelas de cremallera por el prensatelas de cremallera invisible, ya que el cordón era más fino. Solo hay que intentar que el cordón vaya por el surco y no coser demasiado cerca la tela, por que si no es muy difícil darle la vuelta, doy fe. Para terminar las costuras hice falsa costura francesa, y como siempre cremallera invisible y cinturilla. No tiene botones, por que cuando encontré los adecuados solo tenía dos, espero que en la tienda del pueblo tengan todavía y no tenga que ir a la ciudad.

I love this fabric, even if it's bed sheet fabric, so for my 5th versión of  Petite shorts, I've used it again. This time I added 4 cm to the width of the thigh, and a 6 cm pleat in the front cut. As a detail, I have put some loops, following the technique of this tutorial, but this time I changed the zipper foot for the invisible zipper foot, because the cord was thinner. You just have to try that the cord goes along the hole and not to sew the fabric too close to it, it's very difficult to turn it over, I can tell. To finish the seams I used a fake french seam, and as always invisible zipper and waistband. It doesn't have buttons because when I found the right ones, there only were two, I hope I can find them in the town shop and I don't have to go to the city.

OWOP Day 4: Stripes

This is my forth take on the Petite shorts. This time I took out the scallops and made the same cut on the back to get more contrast between horizontal and vertical stripes. I sewed the lining (in the same fabric) to the hemline, turned it and finished it a it was interlining with bias tape.

Esta es mi cuarta toma de los Petite shorts. Esta vez quité las ondas e hice el mismo corte en la espalda para conseguir más contraste entre las rayas verticales y las horizontales. Cosí el forro (en la misma tela) en la línea de dobladillo, le dí la vuelta y lo terminé como si fuera entreforro (sigo sin saber si esto esta bien dicho) con cinta de bies.

OWOP Day 3: Petite sailor

El día que me puse los Petite shorts, me dí cuenta de que se me caían un poco, y ha sido más evidente al hacer el segundo, quizás por que la tela es más fina. Así que he revisado el patrón porque quería algo más ajustado. La alteración ha sido mínima pero ha funcionado. Esta versión es algo diferente. El corte donde estaban las ondas ahora está abierto, rematado con vistas y cerrado por botones. Esta vez la abertura no es de mentira, así que no he puesto cremallera. He quitado 4 centímetros del ancho de muslo y he evitado las pinzas en la espalda, quitando la profundidad del centro espalda y del lateral. Y he añadido unos bolsillos. También lleva cinturilla. Estoy muy contenta con el resultado. Mi hermana ya quiere unos, de hecho piensa que este modelo está hecho para ella. Lo mejor de todo es que es lo más barato que he cosido en mi vida. Aparte de que ya tenía todo, la tela azul es de sábana que me costó, al peso, unos 8 euros 4'5 metros y la estampada es la tela más famosa de IKEA, la he visto en camisas, faldas y vestidos, y me costó unos 8 euros algo más de 2 metros, también al peso. Los botones también los tenía, mi madre dice que tienen unos 40 años. Recuerdo haberlos visto en la caja de los botones desde que era niña y por fin he encontrado algo en que utilizarlos. Es la primera vez que utilizo entreforro (no se me ha ocurrido traducción mejor para interlining) y me ha surgido una duda: Cuál es la mejor forma de terminar las costuras? Ya que al poner la cinta de bies, al haber cuatro telas me resulta un poco grueso.

The day I wore my Petite shorts, I noticed that they fell down my hips a little, and it's been more evident on the second view, maybe because the fabric is thinner. So I have reviewed the pattern because I wanted something more fitted. The alteration is been minimal but it worked. This version is a little different. The cut where the scallops were, now is opened, finished with facings and closed with buttons. This time the opening is not fake, so I haven't installed a zipper. I took 4 centimetres from the width of the thigh and avoided the darts on the back, taking out the depth of the dart in the center back and side back. And I added pockets. It has also a waistband. I'm very happy with the result. My sister wants already a pair, in fact she thinks that this model is made for her. The best of all is that this is the cheapest thing I've sewn in my life. Besides that I had everything in my stash, the blue fabric is from bed sheets that costed, by the weight, about 8 euros 4'5 metres and the printed fabric is the most famous fabric from IKEA, I've seen it in shirts, skirts and dresses, and it costed about 8 euros more than 2 metres, also by the weight. I had the buttons too, my mother says they are 40 years. I remember watching them in the buttons box since I was a child, and finally I've found something to use them in. This is the first time I use internlining and I have a question: Which is the best way to finish the seams? Because by using the bias tape, being four layers is a little bulky.

Ya sé que tengo que cortar pacientemente los hilos, pero a veces se me va la mano, y quería saber si tenéis algún truco para hacer ojales perfectos desde el principio.
I know that I have to cut patiently the threads, but sometimes I overdo the cut, and I want to know if you have a trick to make perfect buttonholes from the beginning.

OWOP Day 2: Failure/Fallo

Perdón por el retraso y por enseñaros un proyecto sin terminar. Esta es un versión sencilla de los Petite shorts, simplemente quité dos ondas y los acorté 2 centímetros. También añadí una cinturilla. La razón de que no estén terminados es porque la confección no fué bien. En mi intento de no comprar nada y aprovechar lo que tenía, no caí en la cuenta de que la cremallera estaba cortada hasta que fue demasiado tarde. Con lo perfecta que me había quedado! Aun así pienso que son muy monos. Quedan tan bonitos colgados de la cuerda! Muchas gracias por vuestros comentarios del primer día y vuestros consejos sobre posar y hacer fotos. Lo tendré en cuenta, aunque aún tengo que coger confianza ante la cámara.

Sorry for the delay and for showing you an unfinished project. This is a simple version of the Petite shorts, I just took two scallops out and shortened the length 2 centimetres. I also added a waistband. The reason they aren't finished is because the making didn't went right. In my attemp of not buying anything and make the most of what I have, I din't notice that the zipper was cut till it was too late. The perfect it has been! I'm still thinking they're cute though. They're so pretty hanging from the rope! Thanks so much for your coments on the first day and your advices on how to pose and make photos. I'll take it into account, but I still have to get confidence in front of the camera.

One Week One Pattern Day 1

Hoy empieza One Week One Pattern. Ya sabéis que consiste en hacer diferentes versiones de un mismo patrón. Escogí los Petite shorts, por que me gusta como me sientan. La primera versión que os enseño es la original. No pensaba modelarlos yo misma, por que no sé posar y además mis fotos quedan fatal. Tengo que aprender a hacer buenas fotos. Pero al final me he atrevido. Bueno, no del todo.

Today begins One Week One Pattern. You know that consists in making different versions of the same pattern. I choose the Petite shorts, because I like how they fit me. The first version I show is the original. I didn't think on modeling myself, because I don`t know how to pose and besides my photos are awful. I have to learn to make good photos. But at the end I've taken a chance. Well, not quite.

One Week, One Pattern y muchas cosas más

Últimamente me estoy apuntando a todo lo que implique coser y hacer más prendas. Hay muchos proyectos por la web. Uno de ellos es el One week, One pattern organizado por Tilly de Tilly and the Buttons. Se trata de realizar siete prendas diferentes inspiradas en el mismo patrón, o modelar la misma prenda pero conjuntada de un modo diferente cada día. Como me gustó como me quedaron los Petite Shorts, en cuanto a medidas, ya había empezado a alterarlos para hacer algo que se me había pasado por la cabeza, así que voy a participar con ese patrón. Tengo ganas de echar a volar la imaginación a ver que puedo sacar de ellos. Otro desafío es Vintage Modern, un concurso organizado por Burdastyle e Indygo Junction una web de patrones de inspiración vintage. Yo nunca uso patrones comerciales, me gusta hacer mis propios patrones, pero aún así, estoy preparando un proyecto inspirado en las chaquetas Easy Artesan Jacket y Cozy Quilted Coat. Estoy usando una tela de cuadros (por supuesto) que compré en Diciembre, cuando se suponía que no tenía que comprar más tela, pero no me pude resistir. Mi madre está ayudándome en este proyecto. La verdad es que no creo que me dé tiempo, ya que he empezado demasiado tarde y mi versión lleva más trabajo del que creía, pero aún así creo que estaré contenta con el resultado.
Hay más desafíos por ahí, pero los he dejado para otro momento, por que no tengo tiempo. Aunque no soy una chica Mad Men, me encantan los vestidos de las protagonistas, y aunque están muy lejos de mi estilo me hubiera gustado participar en el Mad Men Challenge que organiza Julia Bobbin, que consiste en hacer tu vestido favorito de alguna de las chicas. Otro también muy interesante es el Sew Cinematic Challenge. Esta organizado por Debi de My Happy Sewing Place, Meg de Meg the Grand , Solvi de Delfinelise and Veronica de Veronica Darling. Esta vez hay que crear una prenda inspirada en nuestro actor o actriz favorito, o película o serie de television favorita, hay muchas categorías para participar. Pero estos los tendré que dejar para próximas ediciones.
También tengo una buena noticia y es que he sido ganadora de uno de los paquetes misteriosos de Moon Munkie Mistery Giveaway. Ha sido a través de The Seek Speak, a su vez ganadora del Moon Munkie original. Tengo muchas ganas de tener mi paquete aquí y ver que contiene. No veo la hora!

Lately I'm joining to everything that implies sewing and make more garments. There are a lot of projects around the web. One of them is One week, One pattern hosted by Tilly from Tilly and the Buttons. It consists in making seven garments inspired on the same pattern or style the same garment in seven diferent ways. As I liked the fitting of the Petite Shorts, I had begun to alter them to make something I had in my head, so I'm participating with that pattern. I do feel like letting my imagination fly and see what I can get from them. Another challenge is Vintage Modern, a contest organized by Burdastyle and Indygo Junction a vintage inspired pattern web. I never use commercial pattern, I like making my own patters, but I'm preparing a project inspired on the Easy Artesan Jacket and Cozy Quilted Coat. I'm using a plaid fabric (of course) I bought on December when I was supposed not to buy more fabric, but I couldn't resist. My mother is helping me with this project. The truth is I don't think I'll be on time because I've started too late and my version is taking more work that I thought, but even so, I think I'll be happy with the result.
There are more challenges over there. Although I'm not a Mad Men girl, I love the dresses of the actresses, and though they're very far from my style I'd love to participate on the Mad Men Challenge hosted by Julia Bobbin, which consists in making your favourite dress of one of the girls. Another very interesting is Sew Cinematic Challenge. It's hosted by Debi from My Happy Sewing Place, Meg from Meg the Grand, Solvi from Delfinelise and Veronica from Veronica Darling. This time you have to create a garment inspired on your favourite actor or actress, or favourite film or television show, there are many categories to participate. But I'll have to leave them to next editions.
I have also a good new and is that I've won one of the misterious packages of the Moon Munkie Mistery Giveaway. It's been through The Seek Speak, winner of the original Moon Munkie. I'm looking forward to have my package here and see what's in it. I can't wait!
