Hola chicas!

Hi girls! This summer I'm not going to be around here, because I've moved to a place where the internet signal is very bad, and with luck I can connect a couple of hours a week. Besides I couldn't take with me my sewing machine, so there won't be a lot o sewing for me, despite I had some projects in mind. As I'm back in town I've taken the opportunity to write a fast post. A few months ago I received the Versatile Blogger Award from Maider of Masustak Eguzkitan. Once more I thank you. The rules for this award are:

Thank the award to the person who gave it to you and make a link to her blog.

Nominate 15 blogs that you like and enjoy reading (or just watching their photos).

Tell 7 things about you to the person who has nominated you (well, to everybody).

Tell the nominated persons you have nominated them, if not , where's the fun?

<span style="font-family: Cousine, "Times New Roman", serif; font-size: 13px; line-height: 18px;">1.
<span style="font-family: Cousine, "Times New Roman", serif; font-size: 13px; line-height: 18px;">2.
<span style="font-family: Cousine, "Times New Roman", serif; font-size: 13px; line-height: 18px;">3.
<span style="font-family: Cousine, "Times New Roman", serif; font-size: 13px; line-height: 18px;">4.

Some long ago I also received the Liebster Blog Award from Azu from Un Rincón para Mary, and when I got home I've found out that I've been also nominated to this award by María José from Cosir coser sewing. The rules for this prize are:

Copy and paste the award on your blog.

Make a link with the blogger who has given to you.

Award 5 blogs with less than 200 followers and leave a comment to notify they have won the prize.

Trust the chain continues by them awarding their 5 favourite blogs.

Although I've been nominated twice I've chosen 5 blogs, although I'm not sure they have less than 200 followers:

She Sells Sea Shells

Lupecienta

Sue by Sue

A Good Wardrobe

Muchas gracias!
Y a todos, que paséis buen verano!
This prize thing is like a dog chasing its tail, I give it to you, you give it to me, and in the end everybody has a prize, therefore being nominated can lose its appeal. But I feel I owe something to the persons who have nominated me, and I want to give them back in some way they have thought in me for the prize. I want to give the Versatile Blogger Award to Azu from Un Rincón para Mary, besides being my dear sister, she makes divine little dresses for dolls, some from our childhood and some actual ones. I admire her for her patience to sew those miniatures. This prize also goes to María José from Cosir coser sewing, where you can see tutorials, refashioning and garments with beautiful finishes, she has also a new blog (Bolsos Can Colom) where you can see and buy the bags she makes. And finally, as she has the two awards, I give the Petite Mess Award (I have just invented it) to Maider from Masustak Eguzkitan, good reading and photography, besides style and amazing views. Thanks a lot!
And to everybody, have a nice summer!

I'm very happy to show you my second tutorial. Since I made my first tutorial for the Sew Grateful Week I've been wanting to make another one, but I didn't have anything new to show you. My little discovery last Tuesday is the perfect excuse to play a little. My Photoshop skills are very basic, so this time I've used PicMonkey, and I've loved it, besides it's free. This is a petite tutorial about the variation of the skirt of the Bombshell dress. I hope it's useful. I've tried to make it the shortest I could so that it isn't very boring. If I had missed any step you think is important, don't hesitate to tell me.
Don’t think I’ve made everything in one day, the truth is that it has taken me 3 afternoons, but I couldn’t make any post, first because I began my sister's dress and second because I didn’t feel like it. In fact, I thought I had lost my sewing and blogging mojo till yesterday that it was really amusing. On past classes I finished the bodice and put the padding on the cups. I finished the neckline with a piece of selvedge fabric, as Gertie indicates. Yesterday was the turn of the skirt. Finally I decided to use the original skirt pattern after seeing Amy and Lladybird versions. I continued with the size 40 (although I’m not sure this is my size anymore). The only alteration I’ve made is shortening the length about 10 cm as I’m really short. I made the other change at the time of putting all together. I hate gathering because I never make it even and I gather more from a side than the other, or because, like in this case it is very bulky and I don’t like it. So playing with the draping, I get this… thing. I made 3 pleats that I sewed on the wrong side and then I turned them over. And this is the result. I’ve set it to the point where the gathering is supposed to begin which is at 5 cm, but I think it would look better taking it to the hip seam. Although I don’t love it, is a detail that I’d like to prove again and on other garments, but with more fabric to play with. What do you think? Next step is finishing the lapped zipper, and beginning with the lining. It’s almost up!

At last I'm free. My sister Elena's dress is on her hands. I even couldn't take any photos. The wedding was last weekend and I hope she brings it back so I can make some photos so that you can see it. My idea was documenting the proccess and share the helpful links I've used to make it, but I've had only time to sew. I just could think about the dress. Now I need some days of relax, to get up to date my blog reading, tidy up my room which is like a pigsty and try to remember what I was doing before I devote myself 100% to the dress. This project has helped me to learn many things, and realize that I have to improve many of my sewing skills. I'm happy with the global result, but as for finishes, I'm not that happy. As soon as I'm in focus I hope I can show you new projects.
I’ve had a busy week, going from shop to shop looking for more fabric for my sister’s dress. I found the sheer fabric in the shop that I bought it, but the plain fabric was over, so I’ve gone all over the city looking for it… unsuccessfully. Finally, I could make the most of the fabric I had, by turning two of the pattern pieces, something I didn’t want to do, but at last I can breathe easy. I’ve cut the two skirts, and my surprise was when cutting the sheer fabric and basting the pieces together, none of the seams matched. I thought I’ve had traced the pattern in the wrong way, but the seams were right. I thought that, maybe, it was because they fall on the bias and they don’t keep the measure, but by cutting the second skirt which is a polyester satin, I’ve checked they match perfectly. What can be the problem? Obviously it’s the fabric, but would you try to match the seams by easing the fabric? Or would you just leave it and even the length when making the hem? I’m going to try matching them, but I’d love to know your opinion.

Another challenge I’ve faced it’s working with slippery fabric that slips, and moves and doesn’t keep still. Searching in the internet how to cut this kind of fabrics, I’ve found some tips, the main to make a sort of sandwich with the pattern, the fabric and another paper below to stabilize. To me that wasn’t enough so I wrapped my table in tracing paper with adhesive tape, I placed the first layer of fabric and I pinned it in the selvedge and the top of the fabric to the paper, I fold the fabric and I held the second layer on the same way and pinned also the fold of the fabric. Then I pinned the pattern to the fabric and the paper below. And I made a tailor basting to mark the pattern.

Chao.
But I've been watching the next lesson, that is about sewing the bodice in the fashion fabric, so I will have everything ready for next Tuesday, because, I've changed my mind so many times I still don't know what my fabric will be. At first I thought in this fabric, which is curtain fabric, or upholstery fabric, but I don't like the print for the bust part, and besides it's a little bit thick. I've also thought about this grey fabric I used to make these shorts, since I have enough, although the colour doesn't pleased me, because I dress always in grey and I want to change. I don't know what I'll do, probably I will use the grey , to make the most of the fabric and because I don't want to go to buy more fabric. Will I be sick? Well, I hope I can make more progress and faster next weeks. Ciao.
I couldn’t be concentrated, I can’t stop thinking in the project I have in my sewing table. My sister has a wedding in June, and I’m making her dress. I’ve started too late, while I was compiling information about techniques, fabrics and notions to make it. And when I’ve started I’ve realized that I don’t have enough fabric. This time it’s not been my fault, I had asked almost 5 meters (a bit exaggerated, maybe) but the shop assistant who seems to know what she was talking about, and attended us very well, by the way, said that 2,5 were enough. I think she didn’t know was what I was talking about. Maybe I had a bit of fault, because I should have made the pattern before buying the fabric. I couldn’t sleep thinking about changing the skirt or not, to save fabric, but finally I decided to buy more fabric and to make what I thought from the beginning . I’m excited and scared at the same time. I wanted to make something new, something challenging but I think I’ve got too many new techniques in just one project: Inner corset, waist stay tape, spiral steel boning and something else I don’t remember, although I don’t stop revising the making of the dress, over and over again. It has 2 layers, one with a corset and the other with a transparent blousy bodice that lets seeing the inner heart shaped neckline. The skirts have 6 panels slanted from half thigh to give it a little flare. Till I don’t have everything cut and sewed for the first try I won’t be calm. I hope I can cumplir with the class of next Tuesday, because some of the techniques I need are taught in this couse.
With the excitement of the beginning, I didn’t mention that the course I’m making is the Bombshell Dress. Yesterday class was concentrated on the fitting of the bodice, and particularly on the cups fitting. As I suspect it’s a little bit tight, but the only alteration I’m going to make is sewing a little bit out of the seam lines, because is just a little bit. In the cups is been different, I’ve had to make them bigger. Following Gertie’s instructions (more or less) and fixing my dress form as I could to my measurements, I drape the cups on it. And there it’s where I am. I had to repeat the class a couple of times, to be sure of what I was doing. I still have to transfer the changes to the pattern and make the muslin again, but I couldn’t resist and I tried the cup on my breast with the pins and all, and it looks quite well, but I won’t know it for sure till I sew the cups and I try the complete bodice. The truth is that the fitting is always one of parts that I fear most, I normally make my own patterns, and it's when I find the good or bad I have developed a pattern, and seeing that it turned out bad or I have to make many changes after all the work made, makes me feel bad.

So this is how my first muslin looks and the changes on the cup. I think this is the worst muslin in history.
Desdobla, busca, y si encuentras, copia, y luego volver a doblar.
A few months ago I joined the Gertie from Gertie’s New Blog for Better Sewing course on Craftsy, but I didn’t find the time to begin. Then I found Amy’s blog, Sew Well. She was dedicating Tuesdays to follow the course, and I thought it was a great idea to organize myself and be able to start once and for all. She even had made a button for those who want to join to her Tuesdays with Gertie. So today it’s been my first class, and I’ve loved it. I’ve reached the third class, as the first was an introduction, and the second was about how to download the pattern. As I had the pattern from the Burdastyle May 2011, I’ve jumped this part, and I’ve just copied the bodice, because I don’t know what kind of skirt to make yet. It’s been a long time I didn’t make a garment from a commercial pattern, I made a dress from Patrones magazine when I was 16 and I must have been traumatized, because I didn’t remember how difficult it is. Unfold, search, and if you found, copy and then fold again. When I’ve been able to find the pieces, I’ve copied size 40, which is the closest to my measurements, although I think it’s going to be small. But I won’t know this till next class, I have the bodice muslin half done, I haven’t sewed the cups yet. The class is very enjoyable to follow, and I’m very happy to realize that I understand more things than I thought in English. Now I’ve started, I wouldn’t stop till finishing. I’m very excited and I’m looking forward to finish the bodice muslin to see if I have to make many modifications. Besides it’s a type of garment I’ve never worn in my life and that makes more interesting to see the final result.
He dicho gracias? Graciás Maider!
This past week I’ve been a little bit off, and I didn’t know that lovely Maider form Masustak Eguzkitan had given me the Versatile Blogger Award. How exciting! The truth is that I feel a little overwhelmed, because I’m very new to sewing blogging. But I’m very happy. Thank you Maider! This week I’ll try to carry out the deals that take winning an award of this category. Have I say thanks?

Pegamento y tijeras.

Aguja y una hebra de lana.

Un día de lluvia aburrido.

You know that I recently recieved my package of the Moon Munkie that I won in the one organized by Seeks from The Seeks Speak. Between all the things there were some pieces of gift paper, heart and square shaped and a paper with antique drawings. I found a calendar we were going to throw away and I thought about recycling in a different way. To make this you need:

He aquí unas reflexiones sobre mi semana OWOP:

I love pleats and plaid. Keeping always the front cut, on the side piece I drew some lines, cut them and opened them to a 6 cm width. The rest is very simple. In this version I haven't added a waistband, but I haven't put facings either, so I just sewed the lining to the short and turned it over. I know it's not a very clean finish, but it was the fastest. The zipper is on the back. I like a lot this model, and I can imagine it as a skirt, or transforming the pleats in little pockets with a button as a detail, I have to test it
You just have to try that the cord goes along the hole and not to sew the fabric too close to it, it's very difficult to turn it over, I can tell. To finish the seams I used a fake french seam, and as always invisible zipper and waistband. It doesn't have buttons because when I found the right ones, there only were two, I hope I can find them in the town shop and I don't have to go to the city.Marilóhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15932766387371042521noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1991740842367669888.post-46076222779324454942012-03-29T20:34:00.000+02:002012-03-29T20:35:13.949+02:00OWOP Day 4: Stripes

This time I took out the scallops and made the same cut on the back to get more contrast between horizontal and vertical stripes. I sewed the lining (in the same fabric) to the hemline, turned it and finished it a it was interlining with bias tape.
Y he añadido unos bolsillos.

The day I wore my Petite shorts, I noticed that they fell down my hips a little, and it's been more evident on the second view, maybe because the fabric is thinner. So I have reviewed the pattern because I wanted something more fitted. The alteration is been minimal but it worked. This version is a little different. The cut where the scallops were, now is opened, finished with facings and closed with buttons. This time the opening is not fake, so I haven't installed a zipper. I took 4 centimetres from the width of the thigh and avoided the darts on the back, taking out the depth of the dart in the center back and side back. And I added pockets. It has also a waistband. I'm very happy with the result. My sister wants already a pair, in fact she thinks that this model is made for her. The best of all is that this is the cheapest thing I've sewn in my life. Besides that I had everything in my stash, the blue fabric is from bed sheets that costed, by the weight, about 8 euros 4'5 metres and the printed fabric is the most famous fabric from IKEA, I've seen it in shirts, skirts and dresses, and it costed about 8 euros more than 2 metres, also by the weight. I had the buttons too, my mother says they are 40 years. I remember watching them in the buttons box since I was a child, and finally I've found something to use them in. This is the first time I use internlining and I have a question: Which is the best way to finish the seams? Because by using the bias tape, being four layers is a little bulky.

Sorry for the delay and for showing you an unfinished project. This is a simple version of the Petite shorts, I just took two scallops out and shortened the length 2 centimetres. I also added a waistband. The reason they aren't finished is because the making didn't went right. In my attemp of not buying anything and make the most of what I have, I din't notice that the zipper was cut till it was too late. The perfect it has been! I'm still thinking they're cute though. They're so pretty hanging from the rope! Thanks so much for your coments on the first day and your advices on how to pose and make photos. I'll take it into account, but I still have to get confidence in front of the camera.
You know that consists in making different versions of the same pattern. I choose the Petite shorts, because I like how they fit me. The first version I show is the original. I didn't think on modeling myself, because I don`t know how to pose and besides my photos are awful. I have to learn to make good photos. But at the end I've taken a chance. Well, not quite.

Yesterday, when I get home I had a big surprise waiting for me, the Moon Munkie package I won from The Seek Speak was there. I didn' know what to expect, and what I found really amazed me. There were a lot of things that have made my mind start planning what to do with them. I've been inspired in a minute since I saw those things, but I can't stop thinking how could Seeks get rid of all this stuff, because it's amazing. Among hearts made of paper, there were two pieces of eva foam, a pink sweater, a piece of fabric, blue elastic, a silk scarf, a beautiful piece of lace tape (I don't know how to name it in english), seam binding and a vintage pattern that has amazed me the most. First of all because is vintage, and the second because I wanted to make this skirt from Victory Patterns, but now I have the very first pattern of the skirt.
Finally I could make my entry in the contest, although the coat isn't completely finished. It lefts a half of the collar and my mother is still working on it. Thank you Mom! When it's finished I will make a proper post, but you can see it here. Although my lovely sisters are making campaing to help me get votes, I don't think I can win. I think that my coat is a very goog candidate, but there are very good jobs in this challenge. I have already made my votes and these are some of my favourites. Though I don't really like the jacket itself, I love the neat finish of this jacket, the fall of the sleeve and the perfect fit on the dressform.
Lately I'm joining to everything that implies sewing and make more garments. There are a lot of projects around the web. One of them is One week, One pattern hosted by Tilly from Tilly and the Buttons. It consists in making seven garments inspired on the same pattern or style the same garment in seven diferent ways. As I liked the fitting of the Petite Shorts, I had begun to alter them to make something I had in my head, so I'm participating with that pattern. I do feel like letting my imagination fly and see what I can get from them. Another challenge is Vintage Modern, a contest organized by Burdastyle and Indygo Junction a vintage inspired pattern web. I never use commercial pattern, I like making my own patters, but I'm preparing a project inspired on the Easy Artesan Jacket and Cozy Quilted Coat. I'm using a plaid fabric (of course) I bought on December when I was supposed not to buy more fabric, but I couldn't resist. My mother is helping me with this project. The truth is I don't think I'll be on time because I've started too late and my version is taking more work that I thought, but even so, I think I'll be happy with the result.
There are more challenges over there. Although I'm not a Mad Men girl, I love the dresses of the actresses, and though they're very far from my style I'd love to participate on the Mad Men Challenge hosted by Julia Bobbin, which consists in making your favourite dress of one of the girls. Another very interesting is Sew Cinematic Challenge. It's hosted by Debi from My Happy Sewing Place, Meg from Meg the Grand, Solvi from Delfinelise and Veronica from Veronica Darling. This time you have to create a garment inspired on your favourite actor or actress, or favourite film or television show, there are many categories to participate. But I'll have to leave them to next editions.
Not only I have made things I never thought I would, but I met many new great blogs to get inspiration and learn. In the last post from Debi making a resume of how many people have participated, how many projects, reflections, tutorials and giveaways, I found a new great idea. Moon Munkie is hosting a giveaway, but this time is a different giveaway. She is offering four prizes but the content of the packages is a secret. If you win you have to create something with the content of the present and blog about it. You can also continue the chain by offering four new misterious packages. I think this is a fun idea. I was going to join hosting a secret giveaway too but, finally, I can't do it right now, I hope I can do it later this year. I can't wait to see what the people create with the misterious content of the parcels (I hope I am one of them). You can join and read more about it at Moon Munkie. Good luck everyone!

Solo cosas buenas salen de The Sew Grateful Week. And the winner is! (siempre he querido decir esto):
Gracias Debi.
It's imposible to explain all I owe to sewing and to be grateful for, because it would be too long to tell. Since I was a child I've been thinking in garments almost every day, if I liked something, I immediatly imagine how to adapt it to my style or my body shape. Sewing has helped me to take this ideas out of my head, and although I've not been very active, to know that at a given moment I can create something makes me happy. Just thinking about sewing makes me happy, I've sewn more mentally that I've really done. But this is about to change. And I'm grateful for this change. Now I have a place where I can sew, and I love it. I'm sew grateful to my family for their support in my love to sewing, my sisters who wear my garments and inspire me to keep on working and make sewing my job. I would love to but I have a lot to learn. I'm grateful to the world of sewing blogs, full of talented and creative people, that inspire me and make me want continue with my sewing. Since I'm in this blog world I've only heard kind words. And grateful to the Sew Grateful which has permited to know a lot more, to make my first giveaway and tutorial, two things I didn't think I could do and it's been fun. Thanks Debi.

This pants are more an experiment than something I really wanted to make. I wanted to use the leftovers of the fabric I used to make the facing on my Petite coat, so I made these shorts. I wanted to make something simple but not boring, so I decided to make some scallops and sewed some buttons to cheer them up, apart from that, they are ordinary pants, nothing especial as for patternmaking. They're lined with the leftovers of the lining of the Petite coat (you have to make most of everything). This is the first time I line a pair of pants and although I searched in my books "Burda: Costura Fácil" and "Complete guide of sewing", I made it my own at the end. Next time I make them, (I have an order, well, my sister wants a pair) I have to find another way, because this finishing is not very neat. I had everything I used in my stash, even the zipper in the same colour than the fabric, I only bought the buttons, so I could say they've costed me only 8 euros. This is the first time I make a tutorial. I never thought I would make one. I'm very bad at giving indications in my own language, please excuse me if I miss something or I confuse the words.I don't think I have many skills that you, talented people, don't know yet. So I've decided to make a tutorial about something I learned recently by making a coat. I wanted to make loops, but I wanted them to be more rigid and looking in my books for tips I found this, but with less explanation and photographs. I hope it's useful.

I've just found this incredible idea through Andrea from Four Square Walls: The Sew Grateful Week, hosted by Debi from My Happy Sewing Place. I have participated in two of the giveaways one from Andrea and the other from A Fashionable Stich, so I think I have to give something in return to this generous sewing community. I would like to be able to host a giveaway, but I don't have many followers, so I thought maybe I could make a tutorial, but I think I don't have the skills to do that. Of course I can write about why I am sew grateful, and there are a few things I have to finish that I can post on Saturday. Or maybe I can do everything but in a little way. So I've decided to make a little giveaway. I have two Burdastyle magazines from last year if you want them you have to leave a comment below, you don't have to be a follower to participate but if you do, I will be happy. These are the magazines (they are in spanish):

Tomorrow I will try to make a little tutorial.Marilóhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15932766387371042521noreply@blogger.com15
